Fire victims ID'd
SHAMOKIN - Police have identified Andy and Margie Bendas, of 536 N. Second St., as the victims of a fire in the basement of their home Saturday afternoon.
The couple, who were left temporarily homeless, were rescued from their residence by an unidentified nurse who was making her regular visit to the home.
Shamokin Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Rogers said the fire may have started in the furnace area, although an official cause has not yet been determined.
Hit and run
COAL TOWNSHIP - Township police are currently investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 9:53 a.m. Saturday.
A silver 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt was struck while it was parked on Poplar Street, near the intersection with Fern Street. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact police at 644-0333.
Burglary
POINT TOWNSHIP - Point Township Police reported someone forcibly entered a home on Oak Park Drive over the weekend and stole a black, 42-inch Vizio LCD flat-screen TV.
Neighbors reported the suspect's vehicle was either a dark-colored pickup, possibly with a cap, or a dark-colored SUV. Neighbors also said the vehicle, operated by a male, was seen in the area several times at the home and reportedly had a loud exhaust.

Shoe theft
HUMMELS WHARF - State police at Selinsgrove reported two unidentified teenagers each stole a new pair of shoes from Kohl's Department Store in the Monroe Marketplace between 11 and 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
Police said three teens entered the store and proceeded to the shoe department, where they tried on new shoes. Two of the three teens placed their old shoes in a box and put them back on the shelf, leaving the store with a new pair of shoes on their feet. The third teen placed the new shoes back on the shelf and left the store. They rode away on BMX-style bicycles.
The teens are described as: an African-American, 13 to 15 years old, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with a crew-cut haircut and thick-framed, black glasses; a white male, 13 to 15 years old, approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with short, dirty blonde hair, and a white male, 15 to 16 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with short, dark brown hair.

Domestic dispute
COAL TOWNSHIP - Andrew Britton II, 26, and his 38-year-old wife, Lori, both of 409 Water St., Ranshaw, have been charged by Patrolman David Sage with simple assault and harassment relating to a disturbance at their residence around 1 a.m. Monday.
The Brittons are accused of pushing and hitting each other, resulting in injuries.
The Brittons were arraigned at 5 a.m. Monday by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
Underage drinking
SHAMOKIN - City police reported three people have been cited in separate incidents for underage drinking.
Kurtis Whitmer, 20, of 620 N. Fourth St., Sunbury, was cited by Patrolman Bryan Primerano in connection with an incident that occurred at 2:40 a.m. Sunday at Second and Water streets. Louis Block, 19, of 318 N. Rock St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. John Brown relating to an incident that occurred at 11:16 p.m. Wednesday at Block's residence. A 16-year-old Shamokin girl was cited by Primerano in connection with an incident that occurred at 12:43 a.m. Sunday at Fifth and Spruce streets.
