Corrugated cardboard no longer accepted at The News-Item
SHAMOKIN - Corrugated cardboard is no longer being accepted at The News-Item recycling trailer.
The change is necessitated because of abuse of the rules of the recycling trailer.
Otherwise, all paper products are accepted, including bagged shredded paper, magazines, phone books, books, newspapers, wrapping paper, packaging (with plastic and metal removed) and junk mail. The packaging material used for soda and beer cartons is still being accepted, too.
No glass, tin cans or anything other than paper products will be accepted. No items will be accepted that contain processed frozen foods. Also, no disposable diapers, used tissues, paper towels or the like will be accepted.
The trailer is open for dropoffs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Please, no Sunday dropoffs.
In cases of heavy rain and the trailer doors are closed, items can be dropped in the recycling bins near the dock at The News-Item building (but not in the garbage Dumpster).
Cameras are in place to monitor activity, and violators will be fined.
