COAL TOWNSHIP - A 23-year-old Coal Township woman has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly assaulting two police officers, pulling a clump of hair from another woman's head and smashing two windows at her residence New Year's Day.
Meri Delia Bones-Vega, of 1209 Chemung St., was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury after failing to post $20,000 cash bail at her 10:40 a.m. arraignment Tuesday before on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.
She is charged by Patrolman Terry D. Ketchem Jr. with a felony of aggravated assault, misdemeanors of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, and a summary of harassment.
According to a criminal complaint, police responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. to the home, where they encountered Bones-Vega on the front porch yelling that she needed paperwork from her child.
When Elvira Herrera-Hoyos, who was inside the residence, unlocked the door,
the defendant charged into the house and began attacking Herrera-Hoyos before pulling a clump of hair from her head, police said. Patrolman Joshua Wynn ran inside the residence and was able to pull Bones-Vega off the victim and placed her on the floor. Police said Bones-Vega continued to scream and fight with Wynn while he was attempting to control Bones-Vega, who refused to obey demands by Wynn and Ketchem to desist.
When Ketchem and Wynn attempted to handcuff Bones-Vega, she kicked Wynn in the back several times, according to police. Ketchem suffered a minor injury to his right wrist during the struggle.
Police reported Bones-Vega also smashed a second-floor window at the home by throwing a remote control device at it, and broke a first-floor window by pounding on it with her fist.
