Coal Township appoints two police corporals
COAL TOWNSHIP - Two township policemen were promoted to corporal Thursday, the department's first since the turn of the century.
Joshua Wynn and Terry Ketchem both successfully completed civil service testing and were each presented new badges during the monthly township commissioners meeting.
Wynn has been with the department 15 years; Ketchem eight years.
Their promotions bring each an hourly raise of $0.75, or $1,560 over the course of a full year without factoring overtime.
The department's last corporal was Ken Kopinski, who retired in 2000.
The promotions allowed the commissioners to eliminate the position of deputy police chief, which Chief William Carpenter said is not a civil service position. Officer Christopher Williams was named deputy chief nearly a decade ago. He will now assume the title of patrolman.
