PAXINOS - The "Octoberfest" luncheon held on Oct. 28 at Masser's Banquet Hall brought to a close the Coal Crackers Club final event for 2009.
It was a very successful and enjoyable affair. The number of members attending the luncheon was 231, traveling from many areas in and out of Pennsylvania.
Inclmenet weather caused several of the regular attendees from attending. Many of these members have been attending the club's luncheon and picnics from its inception in 2000.
The old friendships renewed and the new friends made at these events prove once again the coal regions of Shamokin and surrounding areas are rooted deep in the hearts of many. The areas have seen many changes throughout the years, but the friendliness never ceases.
Members were welcomed to Massers by Ann Parks, followed with a prayer of thanksgiving offered by Glenn Henninger.
Chris Masser and her loyal staff then served the meal, and as usual, members were very pleased.
In lieu of the usual drawings for small token gifts, a Chinese auction was held. Ann and Ken Parks were responsible for setting up the auction. The funds raised will help with expenses in the upcoming events to be held by the Coal Crackers Club in 2010.
Joan Wallish Muskey, coordinator, thanked all the members for attending the luncheon and mentioned the club will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in April of 2010. She anticipates a very special event. The guest speaker at the anniversary celebration will be Mike Stevens, host of Channel 16 "On the Pa. Road." More information will be forthcoming.
Muskey also thanked all coordinators for a great job done in 2009 and asked for their continued support.
On behalf of all the committee members, Muskey wished everyone a very happy and blessed upcoming holiday season.
