NUMIDIA - Two men tried to steal a brass Bible holder from a church here, but dropped it when a neighbor yelled at them, according to Locust Township Police.
At 5:38 a.m. Wednesday, a resident of 23 Ringtown Mountain Road saw two men walking up to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 25 Ringtown Mountain Road. She saw the two men then walking away; one of the men was holding a brass altar Bible holder.
The woman yelled at the man, telling him to drop it, which he did after the second time she hollered at him.
She then watched the men walk away from the church, heading south on state Route 42. The men were described as follows: the taller of the two looked to be at least 5 feet, 8 inches tall, skinny, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He was also wearing a baseball cap with the hood pulled up over his head and partially covering his face.
The second man was described as much shorter than the first, also skinny and wearing a white or light gray hooded sweatshirt with a baseball cap. He also had the hood pulled up over his head, partially covering his face.
Both sweatshirts were baggy, the woman told police.
There were some items left behind at the church that were recovered for processing. Still missing are the following: A Lutheran book of worship, with a green cover, with red and green ribbon-type markers. The book is approximately 9 inches by 12 inches by 3 inches thick; a "Lutheran Lesson" book, approximately the size of a hymnal, possibly dark in color, and a green tapestry with a Christian design to go over a podium, that's approximately 2 1/2 feet long by 18 inches wide.
