Charges pending against driver in Butler incident
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - The condition of a man driving an SUV that slammed into a house in Butler Township Tuesday morning has been upgraded, as has a man struck by the vehicle inside his house.
Ethan C. Kennedy, 28, of 400 W. Mahanoy Ave., Mahanoy City, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and admitted in critical condition. A spokesperson at Geisinger said Thursday that Kennedy's condition has been upgraded to fair, and it remained as such Friday afternoon.
David Kulp, 919 Fountain St., Route 61, was sitting in a chair inside the home when Kennedy's vehicle came crashing inside. Kulp was also taken to Geisinger Medical Center and remained there in serious condition as of Friday afternoon.
Butler Township police said Kennedy was driving north at an apparent high rate of speed when he crossed the southbound lane, went through a yard and a group of trees and slammed into the Kulp home, going through a wall and into the living room.
Chief Edward Tarantelli said Thursday the investigation determined that Kennedy was driving with a suspended license. He said investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests on Kennedy.
Tarantelli said charges are pending against Kennedy at the conclusion of the investigation.
