The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Central Susquehanna Opportunities, A Community Action Agency, will organize a career symposium for the surrounding high schools.

Each year, the students are provided with well-rounded and educated speakers, as well as a wide variety of careers to explore.

Providing local high school students with an opportunity to view different careers that are available in the Brush Valley region is essential to their development. The symposium is targeted toward 10th-grade students, and although they may not find their life-long career, it will give them the opportunity to think about what they may want to do in the future.

When these students graduate from high school and move on to higher education, whether it be a four-year university, a trade school or perhaps the military, it is important for them to know that they can come back to the Brush Valley region to live and have a successful career.

In an effort to help our young people stay in the area, the chamber, in partnership with Michael Woytowich of Wealth Professionals, has formed The Anthracite Young Professional's Association. This association will not only strive for the betterment of its members and the community, it will put an emphasis on interacting with students, such as the development of a mentoring program for young entrepreneurs and those students interested in going into business.

- The chamber is in the process of gearing up for its eighth annual golf tournament to be being held at Knoebel Three Ponds on Friday. If you are interested in participating in the tournament or being a sponsor, please contact me at 570-648-4675.
