The Cecilian Club held its March meeting at the First Presbyterian Church with Marily Stasney, president, conducting the session.
Members were asked to remember with cards and good wishes those members who are sick or shut in.
The June banquet will be held at the Wayside Inn. Details will announced at the April meeting.
Some upcoming musical events were announced and members were encouraged to attend.
Members were asked to once again support Shamokin Area Ministerium by helping provide special music for the Good Friday service.
The group sang the hymn, "All Nature's Works His Praise Declare," accompanied by Noriene Ladd on organ. Mary Hack read a devotional from "Daily Guideposts" which told about Mozart's piano concerto in G Major. After listening to his pet bird whistle a portion of what he had written, slightly off-key, he revised it to mimic the bird's version.
Members presented an all-instrumental program of music used as theme songs for a variety of movies and television shows. It began with a surprise substitution. Phil Maue was unable to attend, so Irvin Liachowitz, who was a guest attending the meeting, graciously stepped in for a piano duet with Phyllis Bressler, as they played "Le Bal" by Bizet. Nan Weller, accompanied by Bonny Klinger on piano, played a flute solo, "The Thorn Birds Theme" by Mancini. This was followed by Carol Ellis playing a baritone solo arrangement of "Pomp and Circumstance."
Carolyn Weaver on piano and Margaret Morris on organ played Pachelbel's "Canon in D." Klinger followed with "NBC News," a piano solo arrangement by John Williams.
A clarinet trio was next as Krista Breeding, Mary Anne Miller and Barbara Silliman played three numbers. Included were "Magnificent Seven," by Bernstein, arranged by Story; "Hedwig's Theme" from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," by Williams, arranged by Story; and the main theme from "Star Wars," by Williams, also arranged by Story.
The program concluded with a rousing organ solo by Ladd as she played "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," by Bach.
The next regular meeting will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, Shamoking at 7 p.m. Monday, April 12. This will be an open meeting with the public invited to attend. The program is entitled "On with the Show" and will include musical highlights from Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man."
