MOUNT CARMEL - President Cindy Saukaitis opened the monthly meeting of the Carmelite 50-Plus Club Feb. 14 at Village Towne Restaurant. She greeted the officers and members.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, Senior Adult Ministry prayer, Saint Mother Pauline prayer, the 50-plus song, a prayer for the deceased and sick members of the club, especially Gerry Palewicz and Alma Zosh. The club also prayed for the safety of the troops and sang a verse of "America." A special prayer was also said for the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
After the meal, Maria Kaminski read the minutes from last month's meeting. They were approved on a motion by Arlene Terry and Evelyn Milewski, and are on file. Albert Visintainer gave the treasury report, which was approved on a motion by Tina Connor and seconded by Jean Dunkelberger. The report is available for audit.
Saukaitis distributed cards in remembrance of Alma Zosh that she received at the late member's funeral. She passed around a thank you card from her family for a sympathy card sent from all the members. She also read a letter from Senior Adult Ministry President Edna Kister reminding all clubs of the ministry's 40th anniversary, which will be celebrated with a Mass and banquet Oct. 13 and other activities. Club members noted it is almost impossible to attend these events due to lack of transportation.
Winners of the 50/50 were Connor, Dunkelberger and Saukaitis.
The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Village Towne Restaurant. Maria Kaminski will bring dessert, and Connor will bring ice cream. On a motion by Terry and seconded by Dunkelberger, the meeting was adjourned, and the members played bingo.
