Car cruise to raise money for heart transplant patient
GIRARDVILLE - A vehicle cruise to benefit the Rob Krick Heart Fund will be held Saturday to raise money to defray medical expenses.
Krick, a former borough councilman, mechanic and athlete who recently received a new heart at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, is faced with expenses not covered by medical insurance, organizers said in a release.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at borough hall, Fourth and B streets. Vehicles will be judged between 9 a.m. and noon. The cruise will begin between 12:30 and 1 p.m. and will follow Main Street. Fire police will detour local traffic. Awards will be presented afterward. Vehicles will be on display before and after the cruise at the borough hall lot. Refreshments will be available from 8:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the event and a disc jockey will play songs from the 1950s and '60s.
Joe Cesari, of Kulpmont, and Girardville Borough Council are the cruise organizers.
"Coal region people are known for their generosity and hospitality. This is an opportunity to help one of our own," Cesari said in the release. For more information, call Cesari at 570-373-3561 or borough hall at 570-276-1635.
