SHAMOKIN - The 80th annual presentation of the candlelight service of St. John's United Church of Christ will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Robert B. Peiffer is the pastor.

Since 1933, the adult choir and the young people of the church have gathered the Sunday before Christmas to play out the birth of Christ in music and pageant. The choir sings traditional Christmas music as the youth portray the Christmas story.

Portraying the Biblical figures has become a family tradition, with at least four generations participating in the program.

Participating in the service are Margaret Morris, director of the adult choir, organist and accompanist; Susan Haas and Cheryl Sherman, pageant directors; Gary Christ, make-up services; Lisa Newton and Cheryl Sherman, costume and prop services; Mike Newton, spotlight and special lighting, and William Haas, lector.

Adult choir members are Barbara Durdock, Morris and Ann Nowaskie, sopranos; Kathi Christ and Martha Lynch, altos; Gene Boughner, tenor, and Thomas Christ, bass.
