LEWISBURG - Two staff members on the management team at Shamokin Area Community Hospital were honored for their participation on an Aging and Wellness Task Force, which promoted heart health and diabetes education in an effort to build community awareness.

Kelley Morrison, community education coordinator, and Angela Furca, clinical nurse manager, were recognized during the ACTION Health Awards and Community Recognition Banquet held at Country Cupboard.

Morrison was honored for her involvement with the Aging and Wellness Task Force's diabetes education and heart-healthy programs. She organized, promoted and recruited participants for the diabetes classes. She also played a key role in heart-healthy programs by organizing free cholesterol screenings, handling registrations and following up with patients. She was also involved with the Ask Me 3 program in recruiting health care providers and community residents' participation.

Furca was recognized for her role in working with the Aging andWellness Task Force to provide educational sessions on Heart Healthy Choices. Her presentation on cardiovascular disease provided an array of information, which focused on reducing risk factors. She also provided hands-on activities for her audience, which allowed them to interact with each other and learn ways to incorporate the lessons into daily living.

"It's no surprise that Kelley and Angela were recognized for their contributions to the community," said Corinne L. Klose, vice president of patient services and ACTION Health president. "Both are upstanding members of our management team and are well known throughout the community. Outside the hospital, they both participate in many community events, and are true advocates in promoting health and wellness."

ACTION Health hosts an awards and recognition banquet each year to applaud the efforts of its community partners who are committed to community outreach programs in regards to health and wellness. Community partners may include program sites, program presenters or speakers and agencies and organizations.
