SELINSGROVE - Vicky Sample, a workforce specialist employed by Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc. at the PA CareerLink Union/Snyder Counties was recently awarded the 2010 Indirect Provider of Major Support Services and Contributions to the Field of Career and Technical Special Needs Education Award. She was honored at the Pennsylvania Association of Career and Technical Education Special Populations Professional Awards Recognition Dinner held at the Hotel Hershey on Feb. 28.

This award is intended to recognize friends of career and technical special needs education who have made a major contribution to the development and/or growth of career and technical special needs education. Sample was nominated by staff and students at SUN Area Career and Technology Center.

Sample, a youth workforce specialist at the PA CareerLink, works with the Bridges to the Future Youth Program offered in Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties. This regional initiative is funded through the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation Youth Council with grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

The purpose of this program is to provide eligible at-risk, in-school and out-of-school youth ages 14 to 21 with the academic and career readiness preparation that is necessary to compete in the local job market.
