Area students complete program at LPN Center
SUNBURY - Parents, spouses and part- and full-time employees were among the graduating class of the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center's 12-month, full-time program. Commencement was held in the Shikellamy High School auditorium.
"Your journey has been one of hard work, dedication and commitment," said Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) Executive Director Dr. Kevin Singer. "Some of you gave up jobs while others had to balance part-time work with school. A few of you have even worked full time while going to practical nursing school."
Of the 50 graduates, 87 percent have secured employment or are in the process of interviewing for a position and plan to stay and work in the area.
Carol Barbarich, program director, presented awards to five students. Shannon Dreisbach received the achievement award for scoring the highest on a standardized achievement test. Jacob Musser and Natasha Schreffler received perfect attendance awards.
Daniel Fleming, of Paxinos, was chosen by the class to be the student speaker.
Since 1967, the LPN Career Center has trained of students for a career as a practical nurse. The CSIU assumed operation of the program in 1997, and in 2010 moved its location to Lewisburg. Over the past 15 years, more than 500 students have graduated from the program and 90 percent were successfully employed in this area.
