Another ATV crash leads to serious injuries

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - For the second time in two nights, an all-terrain vehicle operator was flown by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after suffering injuries along a dirt road in a wooded area.

An unidentified rider of a buggy-like vehicle was injured in the 7:36 p.m. accident along Shingara Road, approximately one mile off Route 2044. The rider was initially treated at the scene by emergency personnel before being transported by ambulance to the Trevorton Athletic Association (TAA) ballfield, where a landing site had been established for LifeFlight helicopter. The victim was then flown to Geisinger.

Responding to the accident were Zerbe Township Patrolman Michael Pitcavage, Trevorton Ambulance, Trevorton firefighters, Coal Township Rescue Squad and AREA Services. The scene was secured at 8:26 p.m.

At about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Richard Anderson, 48, of York, suffered serious injuries in an ATV crash along Shovel Road, approximately 1.5 miles east of Route 125 in a mine reclamation area near the top of the Burnside Mountain.

Anderson was flown by Medivac helicopter to Geisinger, where he underwent emergency room treatment before being admitted in critical condition, according to a hospital nursing supervisor. Anderson's condition was still listed as critical late Sunday night.
