ELYSBURG - The Coal Crackers Club held its annual picnic Wednesday at Knoebels Amusement Resort with 170 members attending.

The group, which meets three times a year to allow those from or formerly from Shamokin, Coal Township and other local communities to gather and reminisce, first held the Knoebels picnic in 2003.

Registration was handled by Joan Muskey, Doris Bamford and Duane Pasco. The group was welcomed by coordinator Glenn Henninger, followed by an invocation by Harry "Buzz" Miller. Knoebels Catering provided a meal featuring barbecue chicken. Vic Boris provided entertainment, playing keyboard and signing songs from the 1950s and '60s.

Prizes donated by the coordinators were presented to lucky ticket holders. The event was closed by Muskey, who reminded of the fall event, set for Oct. 31 at Masser's Banquet Hall, Paxinos.

Garth Hall, Shamokin, announced the recent decision by Northumberland County to name the auditorium at the career and arts center in Shamokin in memory of Frederick "Fritz" Reed, who died in December after a life of community service.
