SHAMOKIN — Police are continuing their search today for a badly injured man in his 30s who allegedly stole a car from the 200 block of South Shamokin Street early Saturday afternoon and wrecked it in a wooded area between Coal Run and Sagon before being picked up in a vehicle that was last seen traveling toward Marion Heights.

The bizarre sequence of events began at about 12:45 p.m. when a male allegedly stole a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo being rented by a Shamokin Street resident.

Police reported the alleged thief, who is described as being in his 30s, standing approximately 5 feet, 10 inches, weighing approximately 170 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie or shirt and blue jeans, reportedly was driving the car toward Marion Heights when the vehicle exited the highway, sheared off a pole and crashed into several trees.
