Authorities confirm six deaths in Pottsville fire; mother, who was across street, is OK
Six people are dead after flames tore through a single home in Pottsville around midnight Sunday.
Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Joseph Pothering identified those killed as Eric Brown, 30, and his children Joy Brown, 8; Jeremiah Brown, 7; Emily Brown, 3; and, Elijah Brown, 2.
Also killed was Christina Thomas, 26, the children's aunt and sister-in-law of Eric Brown.
Pothering said he pronounced Thomas and Joy and Emily Brown dead at the scene while deputy coroner Scott Clews pronounced Eric, Elijah and Jeremiah deceased.
Pothering said Eric and Jerimiah Brown were found in a third floor front bedroom and Emily Brown was in a third floor middle bedroom.
He said Joy Brown was found on the third floor to the rear of the home and Christina Thomas was found partially out of a rear window.
The children's mother Kelly Brown, 28, was across the street at a neighbor's home when flames erupted and was not injured.
Pothering said virtul autopsies will be conducted today at which time additional may be available.
Firefighters were called to the home at 235 Pierce St. and found heavy fire to the rear of the building and smoke pouring out of the front, Pottsville Fire Chief Todd March said.
Crews from all Pottsville fire companies responded along with Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and firefighters from surrounding communities
