MTV, we are done.

I haven't had much of a clue what was going on or who was who at the VMAs in the past handful of years, but this year, I give up.

I have no idea what Miley Cyrus was doing. I have no idea what that outfit was. Why were some of the bears so sad? Was it the same reason I was sad? Was it the state of popular music that depressed them so?

MTV used to be banned in my household because of Madonna's "Open Your Heart Video" and now, with very clear hindsight, although I idolized Madonna and still think she was an innovator, I can see why the ruling to restrict the channel was necessary.

I hope every parent on God's green earth has the same rule and I hope not one young, easily-influenced person saw the display at this year's VMAs and asked their parents to explain it to them.

Because what would you even say?

I give up on you, MTV. You aren't who you used to be. Catfish is kind of entertaining, but I think I have to block you completely off my channel listing.

I'm going to watch the box set of Matlock and Murder She Wrote to cleanse my TV soul of whatever it was I witnessed Sunday night.

P.S. Justin Timberlake is talented. The end.
