COAL TOWNSHIP - Laura Marcella Backes and Timothy Michael Mazer were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, by the Rev. Adrian Gallagher, pastor, in Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township.

The bride is a daughter of James and Christine Backes, of Coal Township, and a granddaughter of John and Ann Backes, of Coal Township, and the late Woods and Marcella Kitchin, of Shamokin.

The groom is a son of Michael and Deborah Mazer, of Trevorton, and a grandson of Joseph and Mary Mazer, of Mount Carmel, and the late Francis and Mary Slodysko, of Shamokin.

Sarah Schlenker, cousin and friend of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kayla Mazer, sister of the groom, and Amy Serfas, Sherry Langrock, Melanie Keshner, Andrea Smith and Paula Hardin, friends of the bride.

Robert Marcheski, friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Stephen Backes, brother of the bride, and Jerome Manley, Ryan Erdman, Caleb Spotts, Michael Whitenight and Matthew Schell, friends of the groom. The ringbearer was Scott Marcheski, godson of the groom.

Readings were performed by Laurie Snyder, aunt and godmother of the groom, Joseph Alexander, godfather of the bride, and Joseph Mazer, uncle of the groom, on behalf of the late John Mazer, godfather of the groom. Catherine Alexander, godmother of the bride, served as eucharistic minister. Elizabeth Alexander was an altar server and guestbook attendant.

Amanda Innis and Rachel Haimovich, friends of the bride, were vocalists. Jeffrey Serfas, friend of the bride, played trumpet. Denise Giacomini was organist.

The couple and bridal party enjoyed a photo stop at Brewser's SportsGrille, where the couple first met.

A cocktail hour and reception were held at the Front Street Station in Northumberland.

The bride is a 2004 graduate of Shamokin Area Junior-Senior High School and a 2008 graduate of Susquehanna University. She is employed by West Branch Area School District, Morrisdale, as an elementary music teacher.

The groom is a 2006 graduate of Line Mountain High School and a 2010 graduate of Bloomsburg University. He is employed by Agora Cyber Charter School as a high school social studies teacher.

The couple enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico, and have settled into their first home in Bellefonte.
