MOUNT CARMEL - Michael and Carol Tarlecki, of Mount Carmel, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Michelle Tarlecki, to Christopher Sterba, son of Thomas and Mildred Sterba, of Hazleton.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of June and the late Harold Smith, of Mount Carmel, and Theresa and the late Robert Tarlecki, of Aristes. The future groom is the grandson of Congeta and the late John Kelchaw, of Hazleton, and the late Margaret Yachera and Thomas Sterba, of Hazleton.

Tarlecki is a 2001 graduate of Mount Carmel Area Junior/Senior High School. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in international politics. She is pursuing a law degree at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sterba is a 2001 graduate of Bishop Hafey High School. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in information sciences and technology. He is employed by James G. Davis Construction, of Rockville, Md., as a senior information systems engineer.

The couple resides in Frederick, Md. They plan to marry in fall 2011.
