Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Deitz Sr.
SHAMOKIN - Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Deitz Sr., 420 Overlook Blvd., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by joining their children and spouses on a vacation trip to Cape May, N.J.
They were married on June 25, 1949, in Trinity Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Dr. Harold C. Fry, pastor of the church at that time.
Mrs. Deitz is the former Beverly Smith, daughter of the late J. Leroy and Mary Barbara (Miller) Smith. She is active in the Altar Guild of Grace Lutheran Church, co-chairperson of the Mary/Martha Circle; member of the Overlook Garden Club, and a volunteer in the Manna for Many food distribution program for the needy.
Her husband, son of the late Harry Deitz and Christine (Sunbury) Deitz-Bray of Tharptown, is the retired city editor of The News-Item. He is an accident reconstruction photographer for several police departments and a forensic photographer for coroners' offices in two counties. He also is a freelance photographer for newspapers in the area.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church, he is an authorized lay worship leader in the Upper Susquehanna Synod, Lutheran Church in America, and serves as a supply minister for a number of churches throughout the area and in Central Pennsylvania.
The couple have three children, Harry J. Jr., Leesport; Barbara C. Yates, Seattle, Wa., and Palm Springs, Ca., and Terry L., Johnstown. There are 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
