Mr. and Mrs. Edward Strike, of 43 S. Spruce St., Mount Carmel, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their children and granddaughters over the holidays.

Edward, a son of Laura and Frank Strike, and Evelyn Lucas, a daughter of Della and Ben Lucas, were married Dec. 31, 1943, in Elkton, Md. They were wed while Ed was on a three-day leave from serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While Ed was serving his country overseas, Evelyn worked in a defense plant in Philadelphia.

After the war ended, the couple returned to Mount Carmel, where Ed joined the police force and served for 45 years, 25 years as police chief. While Ed was serving the citizens of the town, Evelyn worked at various factories before becoming a full-time stay-at-home wife and mother.

They are proud parents of two children, a daughter, Linda, wife of Jim Rathosky, of Mount Carmel, and a son, Frank, husband of Estrella Strike, of Yorktown, Va. The couple also have three granddaughters, Tamara, wife of Michael Ozlanski, of Durham, N.H.; Gabrielle Strike, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Katherine Strike, of Yorktown, Va.
