CT man wins football contest

COAL TOWNSHIP RR 3 — Norman Shoffler, Box 980, captured first place in the sixth week of The News-Item Football Contest with 15 of 16 correct selections and a guess of 55 as most points scored by a single team.
Shoffler was one of three contestants with 15 accurate choices, and one of two with a perfect guess of 55 points.
Shoffler was chosen by lot over Gas Co. Rockers, 501 N. Rock St., Shamokin, which also had 15 correct picks and a guess of 55 points.
Most points scored by a single team were 55 by Southern Columbia Area Tigers in their 55-14 triumph over Bloomsburg.
Shoffler will receive a $50 merchandise gift certificate redeemable at any of the participating merchants as first-place winner.
The Gas Co. Rockers will receive a $25 merchandise gift certificate.
Matt Spotts, 426 Dairy Road, Dalmatia, took third place with 15 correct picks and a guess of 54 as most points scored by a team. Spotts will be awarded a $15 gift certificate.
All three contestants will be eligible for the $200 grand prize drawing at the conclusion of the contest.
