2 hurt, one critically, as SUV slams into home
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Two people were injured, one critically, when an SUV slammed into a house in Butler Township Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at 919 Fountain St., Route 61, at about 7:35 a.m.
A man driving a white Saturn Vue was traveling north when he went off of the road, through a group of trees and into the front of a home, who neighbors identified as that of David Kulp.
The SUV went through the front of the home and reportedly struck Kulp as he was sitting on a chair in the living room.
Kulp was trapped inside the house and the driver of the SUV trapped as well, emergency personnel said.
Kulp was removed first and then the driver of the SUV. Both were taken away by ambulance for emergency treatment but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Technical rescue units were called from Pottsville and Mahanoy City due to structural damage to the home and the fact the people were trapped under unstable portions of the building.
Ashland and Fountain Springs firefighters were able to remove both victims prior to the arrival of the specialized units.
EMS units from Shenandoah and Ashland were called to the scene and a portion of Route 61 in the area was closed for a brief period.
Butler Township Police are investigating the crash.
